Innovation part-1
Writer:
I want someone to go invent a graphics program that won’t crash my computer. I’m this close to goin’ postal folks, and I’m buying a 2-gig stick if I have to starve for a month to do it!
Anyway, back to Innovation, has anyone seen the new Slate from Microsoft and HP? It’s a step closer to the ‘natural interface’ that all the companies appear to be striving for in different ways. The xbox has an intuitive controller, the Wii can recognise your limb movements, touchpads have been out for ages, as well as software for a vocal interface.
With research projects like Blue Brain, and scientists like Kevin Warwick also on the scene, artifical intellgence and robotics is a frontier that finds itself under continual bombardment. The human imagination brings us films like I, Robot, and the need to explore and to discover erodes the barrier between fantasy and reality – it’s an interesting thought to wonder which one is the driving force. That aside, the advancement in such fields is compelling, and I’m keen to see what the commerical and reasearch industries will come up with next.
