Fun & (Violent) Games part-1
Surreal Science is everywhere! This article by Seed talks about the way people view science, and a little ingenuity, pen, paper and a roomful of volunteers later, a small band of researchers produced this film, The Exquisite Corpse of Science. The whole thing’s blossomed into a larger project in which you can take part, go here for instructions.
I wouldn’t call it surreal exactly, but it’s another example of ‘science-meets-art’, like fractals or maybe it’s like one of those word association games where you discover disturbing or hysterically funny things about your friends at three in the morning.
Any insight, however, into how people perceive science is useful. For some, science at school is all the education in it they’ll ever get, and to be able to express their view of science would, I hope, enable teachers (and techs like myself) to break through whatever is separating the student from the enthralling experience that science can be.
On a purely technical note, and nothing to do with the Corpse project, I think I’m screwing up the comic jpegs by the amount of resizing I have to do to get them to fit in WordPress’ template. Be patient, we’ll try and fix it, in the meantime, click the strip for a link to a larger version.
On second thoughts…
